Potty Training - Day Three

Drum roll please....

I am pleased to announce that we have a 3-year-old little boy who is officially POTTY-TRAINED! :) He really got it the first day, and has been accident-free for two days now. He woke up DRY this morning, after a full night of sleep and kept dry during his nap today as well! GO ISAAC! :) I still wonder how he'll do in the long-run with the overnight stuff, but I gave him the choice to keep wearing underwear at night and working hard to wake up dry in the morning or to go back to wearing pull-ups. His response was immediate: "I want to wear my underwear!" So there you have it! This method worked beautifully for him and he really caught on so quickly. I knew he was beyond ready, and it definitely feels nice to finally be over the big PT hump with him!

Now Naomi is a different story. She will be 23-months-old tomorrow, which puts her at the "prime age" according to the 3-day potty training method. I'm still not convinced that Naomi is totally ready or capable. It still has not "clicked" for her yet. She did wake up dry this morning for the second day in a row! And she did let me know ONCE today that she needed to go. Every other time that she made it to the toilet, it was due to my diligence in whisking her away right as she began to pee. She also had a couple more accidents today than she did yesterday. And that can be attributed to not following the method correctly. I am not supposed to let her out of my sight. And since it was day three, I got lazy with it. For at least two of her major accidents, I was busy helping Isaac with something. Per recommendation of the method, I should have kept Naomi by my side even while helping her brother. I cannot take my eyes off of her. <sigh> This is just SO hard to do by myself with two kiddos at their ages. I guess I kind of expected that by this phase of the training that she would cue in to her body's signals and tell me when she needs to go. But that's just not happening...yet.

So the million dollar question: Do we throw in the towel and go back to diapers/pull-ups for her or stick it out now that we've started? I feel sad for her because I feel like she's REALLY been enjoying the comfort and pride of wearing big girl panties. But she's so little and just isn't getting it yet. I don't have anything planned for the rest of this week. Can I last another day or two of this madness? Haha! I think I may give her another day or two...and just take it one day a time. I know that some of the testimonials for this method said that it took their children five days to be completely trained. So that would mean two more days stuck at home with complete focus and dedication on her. Now that Isaac is trained, maybe it will be more manageable? So after much deliberation and a little time to myself, I have decided to stick it out for another couple of days. If you would have asked me a few hours ago, I was TOTALLY ready to give up on her.

This stuff is exhausting. And I'm running out of fun things to do with them cooped up at home. But with a little creativity and A LOT of patience, we can do this!! :) We'll see if she can get the idea in the next day or two. If not...no big deal. We'll try again in a few months. :) I'll keep you posted...
