Angus Lost by Marjorie Flack
This week our activities revolved around Angus Lost. This is a charming little book about a dog who leaves his yard because he is bored with the same old things, and is curious about life outside of his fence. He has many encounters and ends up getting lost. But as the story comes to a close, he ends up finding the milk man and following him until he finds his house. He was happy to be home with his same old things. :)
We worked all week on learning our phone number. We made it into a rhyme/song, and made laminated, magnetic cards to make it into a game. They still don't quite have it memorized. So I think this will be an ongoing activity for awhile. ;) I'm not pushing for Naomi to memorize it, though she has fun joining in the game.
We also talked about what to do if they ever get lost. The first thing they came up with was, "We should pray!" That warmed my heart! :) I also encouraged them to stay close by, find another mommy, and tell her that they are lost. We talked about giving them my first and last name, as well as my phone number. We also discussed what to do if they were ever snatched by a stranger. I taught them to yell as loud as they could, "Somebody help! This isn't my daddy (or mommy)!" We even did some role-playing of this to help them practice. God do I hope they are never in a situation in which they would need to use this.
Our week was filled with lots of different seat-work type of activities, including but not limited to...
{playing an Angus memory game}
{number sequencing}
He got 1-10, but needed help for the rest. |
{number puzzles/peg board work}
He's getting MUCH better with number recognition and counting! |
Of course this work wouldn't be complete without a tower/sword |
{cutting and pasting/making directional books}
{counting/number recognition/working with tweezers}
{making name bracelets}
{helping Angus find his way home...maze}
Isaac LOVES doing mazes right now. I need to find more for him to do. |
{finding differences}
He also enjoys the "what's different" games. |
{counting and circling the correct numbers}
I was rather impressed with the speed at which he did this one. |
{working with math cubes/patterns}
They weren't interested in doing the patterns, but wanted to just play with them. So we did. :) |
{writing practice}
{story sequencing/cutting practice}
