Potty Training - Day Two
Okay...so as was promised per the training manual, day two was MUCH easier than day one!! Wow! What a difference a day can make! :) I'm still extremely exhausted, but plan to go to bed super early again. And hopefully tonight I will not be on edge as much as I was last night, which gave me VERY little sleep. I feel much more relaxed and confident about the overnight now. :)
Here's our progress report for today:
Isaac only had ONE accident all day! And it was during his nap, so it didn't fully count in my book! This kid is doing SO well. We are SO proud of him! He even got up at 2am last night to let himself into the bathroom to go pee! But then he woke up for the day around 6:30am and had forgotten he was wearing underwear. Not too bad for the first night ever without a pull-up on!! He is officially cued in to his body's signals to use the toilet!! Yay! I am thinking that we may need to put him back into pull-ups for nightime. He has ALWAYS been a VERY heavy wetter. He is excessively thirsty...right up until he puts his head on his pillow at night. And it is KILLING us to not allow water before bedtime. And honestly, it's not worth the battle for us. So after these three days are up, we're going to just forget about training him at night until he's waking up dry more consistently. Overall, we are pleased with his progress...and he is happy with all of the treats, prizes, and praises he's been receiving. :)
Naomi went from having 12 accidents yesterday to only FOUR today!! WOW! What a difference! Two of those were teeny tiny dampness ones, and one was during nap as well. So really only ONE full-out accident!! :) And she made it on the toilet 10 times (including a POOP)!! We are SO proud of her as well!! She is slowly learning how to let her body release to pee. But still isn't quite on it with letting me know she needs to go. Today's success was partly her and partly my own diligence in reading her signals. Hopefully it really begins to "click" for her tomorrow. I was really worried how she was going to do overnight, but she did wonderfully! I woke her up around 9:30pm to get her to pee (with no success). She only wanted to drink more water, which we allowed. I slept horribly, waiting for her to wake up drenched in pee. But she slept the whole way through, waking up DRY at 5:55am!! Quite a bit earlier than I would have liked...but hey...she did go to bed at 6:30pm, and slept the whole way through...waking up DRY...and then peeing in the toilet right away! :) She is amazing us!! :)
Sooooo...my thoughts after Day Two: maybe this is all going to actually pay off!! :) Today was exhausting but not nearly as much as yesterday. If each day gets a little easier, then this might just end up working out really well for us. Naomi seems to have a bladder of steel and can hold it for a lot longer than Isaac. She is averaging going once every hour (with LOTS of extra juice and fluids to drink) and was able to go 13 hours overnight! Isaac is averaging 3-6 times per hour throughout the day. Now...I'm not sure if he genuinely needs to go, or if he has caught on and really enjoys the rewards for going. :) You can see by his sticker chart that he is "getting" it. Hehe. We haven't given him stickers for EVERY time he's gone if they are within 10 or 20 minutes of each other. We continue encouraging him to empty his bladder and are not going to reward him for stopping short and then needing to go again right away. That seemed to work for a little while today.
Overall, we are pleased with their progress. And tomorrow is Day THREE!! This is it, folks! The game-changer day! Will they both be completely and totally potty trained by the end of the day tomorrow? We shall see! Isaac pretty much already is, so I'm going to say a big YES for him (daytimes only). And Naomi is definitely getting there....really hoping that it just "clicks" for her tomorrow. I am the most nervous about being alone tomorrow. It has been SO helpful to have two sets of hands and eyes with this training. Given that we were training two kiddos at once, that makes sense. I'm banking on Isaac doing perfectly and Naomi doing MUCH better than she even did today. It worked out well with accidents when I could deal with and take care of the child and Kevin could deal with the dirty laundry (changing sheets, etc) and cleaning the carpet. It's going to be tricky to have to handle that all by myself. But hopefully the accidents are minimal, and therefore will not be much of an issue! :)
